The design inspiration for the Clubhouse and each Townhouse within Roys Bay Estate is taken from the surrounding landscape with the material palette and colours referencing a contemporary response to the strong architectural heritage of Wanaka. Architectural roof forms with wide tray roofing and walls of masonry and schist reflect an alpine aesthetic while the timber pergola, roof beams, and trellis extend the building form and ground it in the landscape. The natural stone and plaster walls provide the strength and sense of permanence displayed in the surrounding mountain ranges and suggest protection from the winter elements. The timber articulated terrace and outdoor areas provide a sophisticated, warm, and tactile connection to the outdoors, extending living spaces and giving shade from the summer sun. The layout of the Clubhouse is orientated to take best advantage of wider views and the sun’s path, while the internal landscaping focuses on Stoney Creek with informal native riparian planting and grasses reflecting the surrounding natural environment.
Key elements within the Clubhouse and surrounding area include:
• A conservatory lounge and bar that can used for relaxing, entertaining, dining and formal occasions
• Large outdoor patio and BBQ area with shade sail that is connected to the lounge and bar for evening use
• A theatrette (seats approximately 14 people)
• Gym room and spa
• Consultation or small meeting room (can be used for Physio or Spa treatment)
• Petanque terrain
• Open space car parking
• Vehicle wash-down area.
